Hyderabad, April 28: Salim Ismail Dola was arrested in Turkey in a major breakthrough against an international drug trafficking network.
Officials brought him to Delhi on a special flight under tight security. Moreover, Indian agencies had tracked him for several years.
Salim Dola Arrested In International Drug Crackdown
Salim Dola was reportedly detained in Istanbul’s Beylikduzu district by Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization. He allegedly used fake UAE identity documents while staying there.
Originally from Mumbai’s Byculla area, Dola reportedly entered the crime world through illegal gutka supply operations. Later, he allegedly developed links with associates of Dawood Ibrahim.
Investigators claim he operated a large synthetic drug network. The network allegedly dealt in substances including mephedrone and fentanyl.
Agencies estimate the illegal trade handled transactions worth nearly Rs 5,000 crore annually. Officials also suspect links with international drug cartels.
The Central Bureau of Investigation, Narcotics Control Bureau and Mumbai Crime Branch monitored his activities for months.
Authorities earlier secured the return of his son Taher Dola from the UAE. Investigators reportedly used information gathered during that operation to trace Salim Dola.
Although India and Turkey do not have a direct extradition treaty, officials coordinated through international mechanisms and an Interpol Red Corner Notice.
Officials believe the arrest could weaken financial operations linked to organised drug trafficking networks across several Indian states.
