Seven Held In Attapur Matka Gambling Bust, Cash And Phones Seized

Hyderabad, July 16 (Maxim News): The Attapur Police and the Rajendranagar Task Force arrested seven people for allegedly running an illegal Matka gambling operation in Panduranganagar, Attapur. Police registered a case after conducting a raid based on specific intelligence on the evening of July 15.

The operation led to the registration of Crime No. 816/2026 under Section 112 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 9(i) of the Telangana Gaming Act.

According to SHO Seethaiah,  the accused were allegedly playing cards for illegal monetary gains in an open area behind the Hanuman Temple in Panduranganagar. Since such gambling activities are prohibited under state law, the Task Force, along with Attapur Police, immediately conducted a raid and apprehended all seven suspects.

Police identified the arrested persons as Naresh Nayak (30), D. Sunil (29), Venkatesh Rathod (35), Raju (26), R. Gopal (50), Ramji (42), and A. Praveen Reddy (30). Most of the accused work as labourers and reside in Panduranganagar, Attapur, while some are natives of Karnataka.

During the operation, police seized ₹17,740 in cash, five mobile phones, and two sets of playing cards, which they believe were used in the alleged gambling activity. Subsequently, officers completed the seizure panchanama and initiated legal proceedings against the accused.

Officials said the action formed part of the Hyderabad Police’s continued efforts to curb illegal gambling and other unlawful activities across the city. Moreover, police reiterated that strict action would continue against individuals involved in organised gambling.

The operation took place under the supervision of DCP Rajendranagar Zone S. Srinivas, IPS, Additional DCP K. Sreenivas Rao, ACP Rajendranagar Division T. Srinivas, Attapur SHO A. Seethaiah, and Task Force Inspector K. Ravi along with their teams.

Senior officers appreciated the coordinated efforts of the Task Force and AttapurPolice and announced that the personnel involved in the successful operation would receive suitable rewards for their performance.

Authorities urged citizens to report illegal gambling and other unlawful activities to the police to help maintain public order and safety. (Maxim News)
