Special Medical Camps For GHMC Workers to Boost Health and Welfare
Hyderabad, July 23 (Maxim News): In a significant move to promote the health and well-being of civic workers, District In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar inaugurated a special medical camp for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) workers, employees, and members of savings societies at Krishna Kanth Park, Jubilee Hills, on Wednesday.
These camps are part of a larger initiative launched under the directives of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, aiming to improve the health of frontline civic staff who play a crucial role in maintaining the city’s sanitation and public services.
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar emphasized the government’s commitment to public health and worker welfare. “Medical camps are being set up across all GHMC zones to provide essential health check-ups and medicines without the need for hospital visits,” he said. The initiative is being executed in coordination with revenue, municipal, and medical departments.
Healthcare Access for All GHMC Staff
The camps offer free health screenings, tests, and medicines, especially targeted at preventing and managing seasonal diseases. In total, 30 camps are being set up across Greater Hyderabad, and more can be arranged at the division level upon request from corporators.
The minister, who also underwent a health check-up at the event, distributed health kits to GHMC workers. He also detailed the existing healthcare infrastructure in the city, which includes:
- 169 Basti Dawakhanas
- 91 Primary Health Centres
- 11 Specialty Hospitals
Wider Welfare Measures for the Poor
Beyond healthcare, Ponnam Prabhakar highlighted several ongoing welfare initiatives:
- 200 units of free household electricity
- Free rice distribution and new ration cards
- Construction of Indiramma houses
- Free bus travel for women, which has already crossed ₹6,700 crore worth of free journeys
- Increased mess charges in Gurukuls for better food quality
- Distribution of over 60,000 government jobs
He added that 2.31 lakh people will benefit from newly prepared ration cards in the GHMC area alone.
Mayor and GHMC Commissioner Call for Active Participation
Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi appealed to all GHMC employees—especially women—not to neglect these camps. She stressed the importance of early diagnosis of gynecological and seasonal illnesses. “Diseases detected early can be treated effectively,” she noted.
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan also encouraged all sanitation workers, who are at higher risk due to field exposure, to undergo check-ups and utilize the free health kits provided.
Strong Participation and Community Impact
The camps witnessed a large turnout of GHMC staff, who availed themselves of health checks and medicines. District Collector Dasari Harichandana, corporators including Azharuddin and Naveen Yadav, and other senior officials were also present at the event.
