Hyderabad, June 6: A Sudanese passenger admitted to the Ebola isolation ward at Gandhi Hospital after arriving at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has tested negative for Ebola, hospital authorities said.
The passenger had been referred to the government hospital on Thursday after airport thermal scanners detected a mild fever during health screening procedures.
Gandhi Hospital Superintendent Dr Vani confirmed that the Ebola test result was negative. The sample had been sent to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology for testing, and the report was received on Saturday morning.
According to hospital officials, the passenger is scheduled to undergo knee surgery at a private hospital in Hyderabad and is expected to be discharged from Gandhi Hospital shortly.
Doctors said the admission was a precautionary measure under international health surveillance protocols, given the passenger’s travel history and the presence of fever at the time of arrival.
Hospital authorities also stated that test results of two other suspected Ebola cases are expected within the next one or two days.
No confirmed Ebola cases have been reported in connection with the passenger admitted to Gandhi Hospital.
