Adilabad, May 24: Severe heatwave conditions continue to take a deadly toll in the erstwhile Adilabad district, where six people reportedly died due to sunstroke and dehydration in the last 24 hours.
The continuous rise in temperatures and harsh weather conditions triggered panic among residents across several parts of the district.
According to officials, the latest victim was identified as Naresh, a 29 year old record assistant working at the Dandepally Tahsildar office in Mancherial district.
Naresh reportedly fell ill due to suspected sunstroke on Saturday and was shifted to a hospital in Mancherial. However, he died while undergoing treatment on Sunday.
Earlier on Saturday, two daily wage labourers from Bhainsa town also died due to extreme heat exposure.
One of the victims, Enubothula Babanna, 52, reportedly collapsed while working in agricultural fields. Family members rushed him to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Another labourer, Satwe Shankar, 50, lost consciousness while working at a worksite. He also died before receiving medical treatment.
In another incident, Bilal Fariq, a 40 year old mentally challenged man from Maharashtra, allegedly died of sunstroke at Indravelli mandal centre.
A 70 year old unidentified woman reportedly died due to dehydration at Rambar area in Adilabad town. Police said efforts are underway to establish her identity.
Meanwhile, Ramagiri Pullamma, 78, died due to suspected sunstroke at Reddy Colony in Mancherial town.
The heatwave intensified further on Saturday with several areas recording extremely high temperatures.
Sirpur T mandal recorded the highest temperature of 46.5 degrees Celsius. Kasipet mandal registered 46.4 degrees Celsius, while Khanapur recorded 46.3 degrees Celsius.
Indravelli mandal also witnessed severe heat conditions with temperatures touching 45.6 degrees Celsius.
Health officials advised people to avoid stepping outdoors during afternoon hours and urged residents to drink enough water and take precautions to prevent heatstroke.
Authorities are continuing awareness campaigns across the district as heatwave conditions remain severe.
