In an official notice issued on Tuesday, the committee said it had received complaints from students, parents, and student organisations alleging that some colleges were collecting additional charges under various heads despite the prescribed fee structure.
According to the TAFRC, some institutions are collecting extra amounts in the name of admission fee, NBA fee, special fee, career development fee, campus recruitment training (CRT), and uniform charges.
The committee clarified that any amount collected over and above the government-approved fee, irrespective of the name under which it is charged, will be treated as a capitation fee, which is prohibited under the law.
TAFRC warned that strict legal action would be initiated against institutions found violating the fee regulations. It also stated that colleges collecting unauthorised fees would face a penalty of ₹2 lakh per student, in addition to other legal consequences.
The committee urged students and parents not to pay any unauthorised charges and advised them to report violations with supporting evidence directly to the TAFRC office.
It reiterated that all private unaided engineering and professional colleges in Telangana must strictly adhere to the fee structure approved by the government and refrain from imposing any additional financial burden on students. (Maxim News)
