Telangana Begins Preparation For Graduate MLC Elections

Hyderabad, Sept. 18: The Election Commission has begun preparations for the upcoming Graduate MLC elections in Telangana.

Two Legislative Council seats are due to fall vacant in March 2027. One is the Hyderabad Rangareddy Mahabubnagar Graduates’ Constituency.

The commission has started the process of preparing fresh electoral rolls ahead of the elections.

According to the schedule, voter registration will begin on September 28. Applications in Form 18 can be submitted until November 6.

The draft electoral rolls will be published on November 25. Claims and objections will be accepted until December 10.

The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on December 30.

Graduate MLC Elections Trigger Voter Registration Drive

The electoral rolls for Graduates’ Constituencies are prepared afresh before biennial elections. Therefore, even existing voters must submit a fresh Form 18 application.

Applications can be submitted to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer.

They can also be sent by post. The Election Commission permits Form 18 applications for Graduates’ Constituencies with the required supporting documents.

For the Hyderabad Rangareddy Mahabubnagar seat, political parties are expected to focus on voter registration ahead of the election.

The three major parties are also preparing their strategies and considering potential candidates, according to political sources.

The previous election for the constituency saw BRS candidate Vani Devi win the seat after a close contest with the BJP candidate.

The upcoming election could involve a contest among the BRS, Congress and BJP, as the parties prepare for the March 2027 polls.

Political parties have already begun field level meetings as the voter registration exercise approaches.

They are also reaching out to employee and teacher unions and unemployed graduates, according to the report.

Who Can Register for Graduate MLC Elections?

A person must be ordinarily resident in the constituency to register as a graduate elector.

The applicant must have been a graduate for at least three years before the qualifying date of November 1, 2026.

Applicants must submit Form 18 along with an accepted document proving their educational qualification.

Eligible graduates can also use the Election Commission’s voter services for relevant electoral registration services.
