Telangana Engineering Admissions Under Management Quota to Begin from July 19
Telangana Engineering Admissions | Hyderabad, July 18: The process of filling B Category (management quota) engineering seats in Telangana will officially begin on July 19, with colleges set to release the admission notification on the same day.
Chairman of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE), Prof. V. Balakista Reddy, announced the schedule on Thursday, stating that all admissions under the B Category must be completed by August 10.
Under the current admission policy, 70% of engineering seats are filled through convener quota counseling, while the remaining 30% fall under the B Category, often referred to as ownership quota. These seats, as per regulations, should also be allotted based on merit and carry the same fee structure as the convener quota. However, reports indicate that many colleges are misusing this quota by demanding donations ranging between ₹6 lakh to ₹12 lakh per seat.
In addition, several colleges reserve half of their B Category seats for NRI or NRI-sponsored candidates, charging up to US $ 5,000 per seat. Despite this, the ongoing lack of demand—except for Computer Science and related branches—has led to significant fee reductions in many cases.
Telangana Engineering Admissions
Unlike last year, when the notification was permitted on July 31, this year’s early approval—12 days in advance—is aimed at preventing delays.
Chairman Reddy noted that delays in past years pushed students toward private and deemed universities in other states. Another concern raised was about financial hardship faced by students when they pay fees under the B Category but later secure a seat through the convener quota, as refunds are not processed promptly.
Around 28,000 students were admitted under B Category seats last year, and officials expect similar or higher numbers this year.
Colleges are now preparing to begin the admission process as per the newly advanced schedule.
