Hyderabad, August 19: The Telangana High Court directed Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences to treat a NEET UG 2026 candidate as a local candidate.
The order applies to her MBBS and BDS admission for the 2026 to 27 academic year.
A division bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin passed the order.
HC Expands Local Candidate Eligibility
The petitioner, Kodimela Samhitha, challenged Rule 3(a)(iii) of the Telangana Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Rules, 2017.
The rule allows certain students who studied outside Telangana to claim local status.
However, it previously covered children of State government employees and certain other categories.
Samhitha’s father works for the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation. His transfer from Hyderabad to Tirupati led her to complete her schooling in Andhra Pradesh.
The petitioner argued that excluding Central government employees’ children was arbitrary.
The State’s Advocate General A. Sudershan Reddy accepted that the exemption should also cover such employees.
The court therefore directed the University to include Samhitha in the ongoing counselling as a local candidate.
It also directed the State to issue a formal amendment to G.O.Ms.No.150.
Until then, the court said the provision should include children of Central government, Central government corporation and Central Public Sector Undertaking employees.
