The government buys grain from farmers by paying Rs. 2,100 per quintal and gives it to millers under CMR (Custom Milling Rice). Millers are being paid Rs. 3.25 per kg. for milled rice and paying between Rs. 23 to 27 for transporting the milled rice to FCI. Transport from FCI to Selling points in mandals cost Rs. 147 per quintal and porter charges at the rate of Rs. 6 per quintal. This means that the government is spending Rs. 30 to 35 per kg of rice on average.

Telangana Ration Rice

Despite spending so much due to different reasons including lack of quality, half of the card holders are selling them to ration dealers and traders for Rs. 12-15. The brokers are making money by moving the rice collected from them to other states and selling it at Rs. 23 per kg.

The situation can be understood if the authorities are catching 2,000 quintals of ration rice that is being illegally distributed in each district across the state in a year. Officials of the Civil Supplies Department agree that what goes blindly is two or three times more than this.

While the stock of rice is reaching the neighboring states by rail, road and water, the rice is being transformed into CMR (Custom Milling Rice) in the respective states. It means that the cycle of buying and selling started again. In this order, crores of rupees are changing hands. In some other places, the ration rice is turned into oil and reaches the chicken farms and liquor companies.

Telangana Ration Rice Shops

In Maharashtra, which borders Telangana shops were opened only for the purchase of PDS rice. There are dozens of such shops along the main roads in Chandrapur district bordering Kumaram Bheem district, Phodsa, Ballarsha, Aheri, Gondupipri etc. Veerur and Sironchal in Maharashtra have shops adjacent to the railway station.

As per the reliable information that 250-300 quintals of rice is going towards Maharashtra in 15 vehicles from Kumarambheem district. There are criticisms that the lack of check posts anywhere on this route has become a boon for smugglers.

Ration rice is moving from all corners of Telangana to the states of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat. Earlier, rice was transported in Ramagiri and Bhagyanagar express trains from Kazipet to Ballarsha and Chandrapur in Maharashtra. Currently, the Singareni Express from Bhadrachalam to Ballarsha in Maharashtra is carrying PDS rice of Karimnagar, peddapally, Manchiryala and Kumaram Bheem districts.

Rice stocks coming from Nalgonda, Karimnagar, Warangal, Medak, Mahbubnagar, and Suryapet districts are reaching the ports of AP via Khammam district.
