Telangana Reels Under Heatwave As Thunderstorms Lash Several Districts

Hyderabad, May 15: Telangana is witnessing contrasting weather conditions as severe heatwave conditions continue across northern districts while thunderstorms and gusty winds affected parts of the southern and western regions of the State on Friday.

According to the India Meteorological Department, temperatures are rising sharply across Telangana, with several districts expected to record temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius over the next few days.

The northern districts, including Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Mancherial, Jagtial and Kamareddy, are facing the brunt of the intense summer heatwave.

Weather officials said districts such as Asifabad, Sircilla, Bhupalapally and Mulugu are also likely to witness extremely high daytime temperatures.

As per IMD data recorded till 8.30 am on Friday, Adilabad registered 42.3 degrees Celsius, while Medak recorded 42 degrees Celsius and Nizamabad touched 41.8 degrees Celsius.

IMD Issues Orange Alert Across Telangana

The IMD Hyderabad issued an orange alert for several districts, warning that temperatures may range between 41 degrees Celsius and 44 degrees Celsius in areas including Adilabad, Nizamabad, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda and Ramagundam.

At the same time, the weather department forecast isolated intense thunderstorms in southern and western districts, including Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar and Nagarkurnool.

The thunderstorms are expected to continue through Friday evening and early Saturday, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in isolated areas.

In Hyderabad and surrounding districts, weather conditions remained humid with intermittent cloud cover and chances of local thunderstorms.

Begumpet recorded a maximum temperature of 38.7 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, while Hayathnagar registered 39 degrees Celsius. Patancheru recorded 38.6 degrees Celsius and Rajendranagar touched 38.5 degrees Celsius.

Officials said relative humidity levels in Hyderabad remained high between 73 percent and 75 percent, making weather conditions uncomfortable and increasing the real-feel temperature significantly.

Authorities advised people to avoid direct exposure to sunlight during afternoon hours, stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
