Two Chain Snatchers Arrested; Seized Assets Worth Rs. 11 Lakh

Hyderabad, Aug 9 (Maxim News): The Commissioner’s Task Force, South-East Zone, in collaboration with the Malakpet Police, has apprehended two chain snatchers: Md. Mahmood Shareef, also known as Mohammed or Chotu, and Abdul Gaffar, also known as Arif or Areef Chaus. The suspects are linked to three chain snatchings, two bike thefts, and two cell phone thefts across various police jurisdictions in Hyderabad and Rachakonda.

Seized Assets

During the operation, authorities recovered gold jewelry weighing 51.50 grams, a Hyundai i20 car, a TVS Rider bike, a Bajaj Pulsar 220, an iPhone 13, and a OnePlus Nord 2 mobile phone. The total value of the seized items is approximately Rs. 11 lakh.

Criminal Background

Md. Mahmood Shareef, a bike mechanic, and Abdul Gaffar, an OLA cab driver, had previously committed multiple crimes. Shareef was arrested in 2014 for ten chain snatchings and was later detained under the PD Act in 2015. After his release, he resumed criminal activities, leading to the recent chain of snatchings and thefts. Gaffar joined him in these crimes, including incidents in Srinivasapuram, Dilsukhnagar, and Moosaram Bagh.

Investigation and Supervision

The arrests were made under the supervision of Ande Srinivasa Rao, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force, Hyderabad, and K.N. Prasad Varma, Inspector of Police, South-East Zone Task Force, with support from SIs P. Sairam and Sk. Kaviuddin. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on recovering additional stolen property and addressing any further criminal activities by the suspects. (Maxim News)
