Uttam Meets Sonia, Offers To Quit Party Post, Successor Soon

Hyderabad, Nov.11 (Maxim News): The change of guard for the post of Telangana Pradesh Congress committee president is in the offing in the State. Incumbent president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy reportedly called on Sonia Gandhi and told her that he would step down from his post paving the way for appointment of a new PCC president.

According to party sources, Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with his wife and former MLA Padmavathi Reddy called on Sonia Gandhi. Following the debacle of the party in Huzurnagar Assembly bypolls recently, Uttam told the party supremo that he would step down as the PCC president and urged her to appoint his successor. The decision of the incumbent president to step down has led to a competition among senior leaders of the party.

According to sources, party MP A Revanth Reddy, another MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, former minister and MLA D Sridhar Babu, another party MLA T Jagga Reddy and former minister K Jana Reddy are in the race for the top post of the State. However, Revanth Reddy was facing opposition from some of the leaders of the party. Former MP V Hanumanth Rao is opposing the candidature of Revanth Reddy for the top post of the party in the State. He is urging the party high command to appoint any other leader to the post except Revanth Reddy by citing that the MP from Malkajgiri had joined the party just before the Assembly elections.

The party high command is likely to take a decision on the issue after November 16. If we look at the prospects of the party leaders, who are competing for the top post, the prospects of Revanth Reddy may be appointed as the next TPCC president. However, the opposition from within the party for his candidature appears to be a negative point and a hurdle for his appointment as the PCC president. On the other hand, Komatireddy brothersK Venkat Reddy and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, who is also an MLA of the party have long been demanding the party high command to appoint them as am the PCC chief. While the prospects of Venkat Reddy to become the next PCC president are also bright the comments made by His younger brother Rajgopal Reddy have turned out to be a negative point for him before the party high command.

On the other hand, former Minister and senior Congress leader K Jana Reddy is also said to be in the race for the top post. However many party leaders are also supporting the candidature of another former minister D Sridhar Babu for the PCC president’s post. The reason for this is that he is known to be a no-nonsense leader does not have any Coterie in the party. The party MLA from Sangareddy T Jayaprakash Reddy who is known for his controversial and sensational comments have , on several occasions, made it clear that he was ready to lead the party in the state if the party high command decided to appoint him as the PCC president. He urged the party high command to appoint him as the PCC president earlier.

The party high command is already observing all the developments on the issue and is firm on appointing the next PCC president before the issuance of the election notification for the urban local bodies.(Maxim News)
