New Delhi, July 24: The Central Government on Friday introduced the Vande Mataram Bill in the Rajya Sabha, proposing legal protection for the national song and penal provisions for acts considered an insult to it.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai introduced the Bill amid protests from Opposition members.
Opposition Protests After Bill’s Introduction
According to the proceedings, the Bill seeks to provide legal safeguards for Vande Mataram and includes provisions for punishment against those found guilty of insulting the national song.
Soon after the Bill was introduced, Opposition members raised objections, leading to disruptions in the House.
Amid the uproar, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned until Monday without taking up further discussion on the proposed legislation.
