Amaravathi/Hyderabad, Aug 18 (Maxim News): Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has taken a key decision to provide 34 percent reservation to BCs in local body elections. The Cabinet took a key decision to the effect in a meeting chaired by CM Chandrababu naidu on Tuesday (August 18), in this meeting, the Cabinet discussed more than 55 agenda items, including BC reservations, at length and approved key decisions. The Cabinet tok decisions on key issues such as BC reservations in local body elections, local elections, direct elections of mayors and municipal chairman and industries.
The Cabinet has decided to implement 34 percent reservation for BCs in rural areas and 33.1 percent in urban areas. The Cabinet decision assumes significance as the government is preparing to increase BC reservations as per its election promise.
The Cabinet has decided to hold the local body elections by October. The AP Cabinet has decided to hold the elections on time to avoid loss of funds of approximately Rs.16,500 crores due from the Central Finance Commission.
Speaking to the media after the cabinet meeting, Minister Savita made key comments in this regard. Minister Savita said that political empowerment of BCs is the goal of her government and that the TDP has a historic role in the reservation of BCs. (Maxim News)
