Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hoisted the National Flag at the Red Fort as India celebrated its 80th Independence Day.

The flag hoisting was synchronised with a 21-gun salute fired by the ceremonial 1721 Field Battery. The battery used indigenous 105mm Light Field Guns and was commanded by Major Pawan Singh Shekhawat.
For the first time, ‘Vande Mataram’ was rendered during the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort, adding a historic moment to the ceremony.
Addressing the nation, PM Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, freedom fighters and revolutionaries who contributed to India’s independence.
PM Modi Highlights India’s Vision for 2047
Referring to the rendition of Vande Mataram, Modi said the national song was resonating at the Red Fort for the first time since independence.
He said India was celebrating its 80th Independence Day with renewed enthusiasm and determination. He also noted that the Tricolour was flying across homes and inspiring citizens.
The Prime Minister also expressed concern over recent floods in parts of the country. He assured affected families that the entire nation stood with them during the difficult period.
On India’s development journey, Modi said the country had set an ambitious goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
He said India’s resolve to achieve developed-nation status reflected the confidence and courage of its people and would change how the world viewed the country.
