Relief To Rahul Gandhi In The Supreme Court

Delhi/Hyderabad, Sept 4 (Maxim News):  Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi got relief in the Supreme Court today.  The Supreme Court stayed the judgment given by the Gujarat Court in the defamation case.

It may be recalled that the Surat Court convicted Rahul Gandhi on March 23, 2023, and sentenced him to two years in prison. Challenging this, Rahul Gandhi approached the Gujarat High Court where he did not get relief Gujarat High Court upheld the Suraj Court verdict, and challenging this, Rahul Gandhi approached the Supreme Court.

Gujarat BJP MLA Purnesh Modi has filed a criminal defamation case against Rahul Gandhi for his remarks about Modi’s surname during a 2019 Karnataka election rally. The surat Court convicted Rahul Gandhi and sentenced him to two years imprisonment along with a fine.

The Supreme Court bench comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice PK Mishra has issued notices to the Gujarat government along with former Gujarat Minister Purnesh Modi who is the defendant in this case.  It was ordered to reply within two weeks.  Later, the hearing was postponed today, Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued on behalf of Rahul Gandhi.
