LPG Gas at Rs. 500 in Telangana from Dec. 28

  • Telangana Congress unveils gas cylinder subsidy for women under Mahalakshmi scheme

LPG Gas at Rs. 500 | Hyderabad, December 20 (Maxim News): The newly elected Congress government in Telangana has launched a major initiative within the Mahalakshmi scheme to empower women and provide relief on household expenses.

Starting from December 28, LPG gas cylinders will be offered at a significantly discounted price of Rs. 500, marking a significant date in the party’s history – its founding anniversary.

This program is currently undergoing intense planning by the civil supply department. Officials are formulating guidelines to define the number of eligible users and criteria for participation. The financial implications for the state, exceeding Rs. 3,000 crores, are also being carefully evaluated.

With 1.2 crore gas connections and 60 lakh cylinders distributed monthly in Telangana, a key question is whether the subsidy should be extended to all connections or restricted to those registered under women’s names. Considering that nearly 70 lakh connections belong to women, the scheme aims to optimize its reach for maximum impact.

In response to government directives, Civil Supplies Officers are diligently crafting guidelines for the “500k cylinderscheme.

A potential “name change” provision is being explored, particularly if the subsidy is limited to women’s connections. This would allow individuals to modify details without lengthy procedures at LPG dealers, ensuring wider accessibility even if the subsidy is restricted. (Maxim News)
