Generally, 5 thousand quintals of tomatoes come to Bowenpally market in Hyderabad, but it is not sufficient for the needs of the people of Hyderabad.  While 96 percent of the tomatoes are coming from outside.  Only 3.34 percent is coming from Telangana state.  It doesn’t fit at all.  On June 19, only 2,125 quintals of tomato arrived at Bowenpally wholesale market.

Of this, the crop grown in Telangana is only 71 quintals.  The rest of the crop was imported from AP, karnataka and maharashtra.  A thousand quintals of it come from Madanapalle in A.P.  Not enough tomato loads are coming from Gajwel, medchal, Zaheerabad, Toopran, Vikarabad, Shamirpet, Siddipet, Bhuvanagiri and Gadwal areas of Telangana.

Officials say that the reason for this is the decrease in tomato cultivation due to the influence of the sun.  Due to the shortage of tomato, the prices of this vegetable are burning in the open market.

All kinds of prices have gone up as the crop production has come down significantly.  If you go to the market with Rs. 500, the bag is not even full.  While the prices of tomatoes and green chillies, which are regularly used in cooking, go up to Rs. 100 per kg in wholesale, they are sold upto Rs. 120 per kg in retail.  Even beets are not going down to Rs. 60 per kg.  With the increase in the prices of all kinds of vegetables, the common people are afraid to go to the market.  (Maxim News)
