Hyderabad, August 27: Several popular apps, including Uber, Rapido, Ola and Blinkit, faced service disruptions across India on Thursday evening, August 27, leaving users unable to book rides or place orders.
The outage was reported amid issues with Amazon Web Services (AWS), which hosts and supports several online services. Users began reporting problems with the apps from around 5:40 pm onwards, with complaints increasing during the evening.
Uber, Rapido, Ola and Blinkit Face Service Disruption
According to Downdetector, Rapido users reported significant problems in several parts of India. Around 28% of reports from New Delhi indicated that the app was not working, while 12% of users in Karnataka and Telangana also reported issues.
Downdetector recorded around 1,700 complaints about Rapido within an hour, as users struggled to access the ride-hailing service.
The Uber outage was first reported at around 5:41 pm. Reports increased rapidly and reached a peak around 7 pm, with several users saying they were unable to book rides.
Users also reported problems with Ola from around 6:15 pm. By 7:30 pm, Downdetector had received 107 reports. Some users said they could not book rides, while others reported that the app was not displaying fare prices.
Meanwhile, Blinkit also faced a disruption during the same period. Users reported being unable to place grocery and other orders through the quick-commerce platform.
The simultaneous disruptions triggered a wave of complaints on social media, with users sharing screenshots and reporting difficulties accessing the affected services.
The extent of the outage and the exact cause of the disruption are still being assessed. Users may continue to experience intermittent problems until the affected services are fully restored.
