Police Allegedly Assault Pan Shop Owner in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Nov 13 (Maxim News): A pan shop owner in Borabanda, identified as Jaffar (also known as Mehraz), has accused local police of assaulting him for operating his shop beyond permitted hours. The incident, captured on CCTV, has sparked controversy and raised concerns about law enforcement practices in the area.

Jaffar claims that during the late-night incident, police officers caned him indiscriminately, resulting in a leg injury. He stated, “I was closing my shop when the police arrived and started beating me.”

In response, Borabanda Inspector of Police A. Veerasekhar defended the officers’ actions, explaining that a constable used a cane to disperse a late-night gathering at the shop. He noted, “Our constable caned them as several people had gathered late at night.” Inspector Veerasekhar further highlighted recent criminal activities in the area, including the discovery of ganja and incidents of murder and attempted murder, suggesting that such gatherings could pose security risks.

The inspector also pointed out that the pan shop was operating illegally, having been leased to Jaffar by Shafi, a specially-abled individual. He claimed that the area surrounding the establishment had become a hotspot for mischief-makers and ganja sellers. Regarding Jaffar’s injury claims, Inspector Veerasekhar stated, “It is not true that he was injured.”

This incident has raised concerns among residents about the balance between maintaining public order and ensuring individual rights. (Maxim News)
