Hyderabad, June 2, (Maxim News) In a landmark tribute on Telangana Formation Day, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced a ₹1 crore cash reward for nine distinguished individuals who played pivotal roles in the Telangana statehood movement. The announcement came during a grand state ceremony at Hyderabad’s Parade Ground, symbolizing the government’s commitment to honoring the voices that shaped the region’s destiny.

The Chief Minister personally presented the awards in a gesture of gratitude, underscoring the depth of reverence for those who became the face and force of the movement.
The individuals were recognized for their unique contributions to the movement:
Ekka Yadagiri Rao – Celebrated public artist whose artwork became a powerful medium for pro-Telangana expression.
Andesri – Lyricist of the iconic “Jaya Jaya He Telangana,” now embraced as the state anthem.
Suddala Ashok Teja – Esteemed poet who fueled the spirit of the movement through evocative folk songs.
Jayaraju & Pasham Yadagiri – Influential cultural figures who used stage and storytelling to awaken public sentiment.
The families of late stalwarts Guda Anjaiah, Gaddar, and Bandi Yadagiri were also honoured with commemorative gifts, acknowledging their invaluable legacy. CM Reddy further announced the establishment of a Gaddar Inspiration Center, a memorial to the revolutionary poet’s contribution, which will be undertaken in collaboration with his family.
On behalf of acclaimed poet Gorati Venkanna, currently abroad, his daughter received the award, as the Chief Minister commended Venkanna’s humanistic portrayal of the movement in his writings.
In addition to celebrating cultural icons, the Chief Minister extended heartfelt gratitude to the Telangana Police Department for its unwavering service during the statehood agitation and beyond.
19 officers received the Medal for Gallantry.
11 officers were awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service.
CM Reddy praised the department’s professionalism, emphasizing their vital role in maintaining peace while the movement surged across the state.
This year’s prestigious Kaloji Award was conferred on Nalimela Bhaskar, a multilingual writer and passionate advocate for preserving Telangana’s language and literary identity. Known for weaving cultural depth into his prose, Bhaskar has helped elevate Telangana literature on a global stage.
The state’s decision to honor movement veterans has been met with widespread appreciation from intellectuals, citizens, and activists. Many hailed the move as a “historic step” that recognizes the blood, sweat, and resolve behind the Telangana dream.
“The Telangana movement is a saga of countless sacrifices,” said one attendee. “Today’s recognition ensures that these heroes are remembered not just in speeches, but through meaningful respect and enduring legacy.”
