Waqf Board: Tender Delay at Jahangir Peer Dargah, More than ₹1 Cr Loss

  • Jahangir Peer Dargah’s Annual Tender Stalled: ₹1.25 Crore Loss, 25 Workers Jobless – Waqf Board Apathy Raises Concerns, Public Appeals for Minister’s Intervention

Waqf Board | Hyderabad, August 1: The annual tender process for the renowned Dargah of Hazrat Jahangir Peer (RA) has been stalled for over six months, leading to serious consequences.

The delay has caused a financial loss of approximately ₹1.25 crore to the Dargah administration and rendered nearly 25 individuals jobless, reportedly.

The annual tender typically includes contracts for about 15 key services – such as stalls, lighting, floral decorations, cleaning, and management all allocated through the Telangana State Waqf Board.

However, due to ongoing disputes between the Waqf Board Chairman and CEO, the tender has been indefinitely halted.

Sources reveal that several applicants submitted demand drafts (DDs) worth ₹10 lakh, ₹20 lakh, and even ₹30 lakh for the tenders.

Despite this, the Waqf Board has neither refunded the money nor issued allotments nor moved the process forward.

The issue isn’t isolated to Jahangir Peer Dargah. Similar problems persist in other major shrines and several smaller Dargahs.

Welfare activities funded by these annual revenues, such as stipends for orphans and widows, cemetery wall repairs, and anti-encroachment efforts, have also come to a standstill.

Legal uncertainty surrounding proposed amendments to the Waqf Act (currently under review in the Supreme Court) has further complicated matters.

Many top officials are reportedly maintaining a passive stance amid speculations that the current board could be dissolved if the amendment is enforced.

Waqf Board: Minority Welfare Minister

Shockingly, even after the appointment of a new Minority Welfare Minister in Telangana, there has been no visible progress on the issue. Despite repeated representations, petitions, and complaints submitted to the Minority Welfare Department, Secretary, and Waqf Board, the matter remains unaddressed.

There’s growing public concern that the Waqf Board has become a tool for political convenience. Several MLAs and MPs are frequently seen using the board to resolve personal matters, while the collective issues of the Muslim community remain ignored.

Now, with a new minister at the helm of the Minority Welfare portfolio, the public, stakeholders, and affected contractors are directly appealing for his personal intervention.

They urge immediate steps to restore the functioning of Jahangir Peer Dargah and other institutions, so that essential services and community welfare efforts can resume without further delay.
