Local Body Elections: Notification in the Morning, Stay by Evening: New Uncertainty for Election Aspirants
Local Body Elections | Hyderabad, Oct 9 (Maxim News): Aspirants eagerly awaiting the Telangana local body elections faced fresh uncertainty as the High Court’s intervention disrupted the process.
This morning, the State Election Commission (SEC) issued a notification for the first phase of polling for MPTC and ZPTC seats, raising hopes among candidates supporting the new BC reservations who prepared to file nominations.
However, by evening, the Telangana High Court issued an interim stay on Government Order No. 9, which had granted 42 percent reservation to Backward Classes (BCs) in local bodies, effectively putting the election notification on hold, As part of this, the hearing has been adjourned for six weeks.

Following the court’s stay order, the SEC has indicated it will await the official court order before making further decisions and appears ready to comply with the High Court’s ruling.
This stay has created tension among aspirants. The state government had finalized a 42 percent BC reservation, significantly impacting candidate preparations and campaign expenditures, especially in areas favoring BC reservations.
With the sudden stay, aspirants and social groups, including BC communities, are left anxious about the status of the reservations and the election schedule.
The situation remains uncertain as all await the court’s final decision on GO No. 9 and its implementation. (Maxim News)
