The alert was announced on Monday morning, urging residents to remain cautious as the city continues to experience fluctuating weather conditions.

Several Telangana districts, including Yadadri-Bhongir, Warangal, Khammam, and Mahabubabad, witnessed heavy rainfall on Sunday night.

In Yadadri, torrential rain lasting almost three hours led to severe flooding in low-lying areas, disrupting vehicular movement and affecting homes near the temple town.

Locals reported slow-moving traffic and waterlogging that lasted until early morning on Monday.

Meteorologist K. S. Sridhar explained to the media, “The rainfall intensity in Yadadri and nearby districts was well above normal for the day.

It was a result of strong convective activity in the lower atmosphere combined with high surface moisture.”

In Hyderabad, the day began under heavy cloud cover. Some parts of the city saw light drizzles while others remained hazy.

Initially, the IMD placed Hyderabad under an orange alert, which was later changed to yellow as rainfall intensity decreased.

The department’s nowcast at 6 a.m. projected light rain with winds below 40 km/h for regions like Rangareddy, Malkajgiri, Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Hanamkonda. Authorities also warned of traffic disruptions due to possible waterlogging.

Weather forecasts indicate that Hyderabad and neighbouring districts will receive light to moderate rainfall till mid-week.

Meteorologist Sridhar added that “this pattern of sustained clouding and intermittent showers is typical during post-monsoon transitions.

The current system over the Bay of Bengal is feeding moisture inland, which is why Telangana continues to see persistent rainfall.”

According to the IMD’s national bulletin, similar weather activity will persist across southern and eastern India this week.

While Delhi and Mumbai have seen a decline in rain, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha may continue to experience unsettled conditions.

Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors during heavy rain, and remain vigilant, especially in areas prone to flooding.
