Hajipur: Janshakti Janta Dal (JJD) Chief Tej Pratap Yadav has been booked for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the filing of his nomination papers from the Mahua Assembly constituency in Bihar’s Vaishali district, police said on Sunday.
According to an official statement from the district police, the Circle Officer of Mahua lodged a complaint after a video went viral on social media showing Tej Pratap using an SUV bearing a police logo and beacon light during a rally held on October 16.
“The footage was examined thoroughly and it was found that the police logo and beacon light were used on a private vehicle. A case has been registered for violation of the election Model Code of Conduct,” the police statement said.
Tej Pratap Yadav had arrived at the Mahua block office in a large procession to submit his nomination papers, which drew attention after visuals of the alleged MCC violation surfaced online.
Yadav, who launched his new party Janshakti Janta Dal earlier this year, was expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) by his father Lalu Prasad Yadav in May for six years following a series of controversial incidents, including a social media post in which he claimed to be “in a relationship.” The post was later deleted, with Tej Pratap alleging that his account had been hacked.
Following his expulsion, Tej Pratap had accused a section within the RJD of conspiring to create a rift between him and his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav, then describing the alleged conspirators as “Jaichands,” a term used to refer to traitors.
The Mahua Assembly seat, once represented by Tej Pratap Yadav himself, is expected to witness a high-profile contest in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, with both RJD and JJD fielding strong candidates.
