Officials confirmed that the Central government has given in-principle approval for the borrowing plan. During his recent Delhi visit, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met ADB representatives along with municipal officials, where the bank expressed willingness to support the initiative.

The agreement between the ADB and state officials has reportedly been finalized, following which an ADB delegation inspected the first phase of the Musi River Rejuvenation Project.

Comprehensive Development Plans for Musi River

According to Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) officials, the ADB team reviewed various aspects of the project, including infrastructure, environment, and tourism potential.

Initially, the state planned to seek financial assistance from the World Bank, but the Union Finance Department recommended opting for ADB funding. After reviewing the detailed project report (DPR), ADB agreed to finance the project, recognizing its environmental sustainability goals.

The government has drawn plans to build roads and basic amenities on both sides of the river.

It also aims to channel flood and sewage water from adjoining regions into new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) along the Musi’s course.

ADB representatives have inspected these proposed STP sites and are scheduled to make a second visit in early November. Following that, officials expect the loan processing to begin formally.

The project’s DPR is being finalized based on Blue, Green, and Land Use Master Plans, along with Landmark and Infrastructure development blueprints.

The plan includes tourism facilities, commercial complexes, amusement parks, and entertainment zones, to be developed through public-private partnerships and leasing arrangements to ensure sustained revenue.

Lands earlier assigned to institutions like TISS and IIPH have been transferred for the project, with alternate plots to be allotted in the proposed Future City.
