Hyderabad: Cyber crimes took center stage in the city after Hyderabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar launched a new awareness program aimed at preventing rising online fraud. The initiative began at Charminar, where the CP addressed the public and explained the growing threat of cyber crimes. He said the awareness drive would continue every Saturday and Tuesday at the historic site.
He explained that officials held an awareness session at Charminar today to educate people about common fraud tactics. He noted that many people continue to fall victim to cyber crimes because they do not have enough knowledge about how these frauds work. Therefore, he stressed that spreading awareness is the first and most important step in reducing these crimes in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner revealed that the city faces major financial losses every day because of cyber criminals. He said, “In Hyderabad alone, one crore rupees are being lost every day in cyber crimes.” He also warned that online criminals use tricks such as OTP scams, investment fraud and digital arrest tactics to deceive people. He urged residents to stay alert and not panic if someone tries to threaten them on a call. He added that fear gives more strength to criminals and increases the chances of being cheated.
