Hyderabad, June 16 (Maxim News): The Telangana High Court has extended journalists accreditation cards till July 15, 2026.
The high court issued the direction while hearing petitions that challenge G.O. Ms. No. 252 and its amended versions.
The Telangana Urdu Working Journalists Federation and others filed the petitions. The federation questioned the validity of the government orders. It also sought protection for accreditation facilities during the legal process. Advocate Barkat Ali Khan represented the petitioners in court.
During the hearing, the Special Advocate General informed the court about the state’s stand.
Upon hearing the government stand the court decided to extend the validity of existing accreditation cards for one month.
The court then recorded the submission and issued clear directions. It ordered that all current accreditation cards will remain valid until July 15, 2026.
High Court relief ensures continuity for journalists
As a result, accredited journalists across Telangana will continue to access official events without disruption. They will also retain all benefits linked to accreditation during this period. Moreover, the extension prevents interruptions in professional duties.
In addition, the Telangana Urdu Working Journalists Federation filed an interlocutory application through Advocate Barkat Ali Khan. The federation sought directions to the respondents to place complete data on record. It requested details on the number of applications received, cards issued, and applications rejected along with reasons. The court will take up this application during the next hearing.
Syed Ghouse Mohiuddin, General Secretary of the federation, welcomed the decision. However, he termed it a temporary relief. He also said the federation will continue its legal fight for a permanent solution.
Furthermore, the court posted the next hearing to July 22, 2026. The final outcome will decide the validity of the contested government orders. Until then, journalists will operate without uncertainty.
