Ponnam Prabhakar Attacks KCR Over Assembly Absence
Hyderabad, Dec. 22 (Maxim News) : Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar strongly criticised BRS president and Leader of the Opposition K Chandrashekar Rao, accusing him of avoiding the Assembly while making allegations against the Congress government.
He made these remarks while addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday. Ponnam Prabhakar said KCR failed to attend the Assembly despite holding the position of principal opposition leader.
However, he alleged that KCR continued to issue threats and remarks against the ruling party from outside the House. He said the Congress government would not remain silent if KCR spoke irresponsibly after staying away from legislative debates.
The minister said KCR resurfaced after two years from his farmhouse and began making random statements. He added that the Congress leaders were elected democratically by the people and remained accountable to them. Therefore, he said, criticism without participating in debates lacked credibility.
He stated that the government repeatedly invited KCR to attend the Assembly with due respect befitting his position. Ponnam added that even the Chief Minister appealed to KCR to participate in the House proceedings.
Moreover, he said the Speaker assured that the Assembly would function without diminishing the dignity of the opposition leader.
Ponnam Prabhakar said debates in the Assembly would allow people to judge who contributed what to the state.
However, he criticised KCR for alleging that the Congress government would strip people of their rights. He said such claims were inappropriate, especially after what he described as large scale damage caused to the state earlier.
The minister asserted that the Congress party carried full responsibility towards the people and the state.
Prabhakar said the government conducted regular reviews across departments due to the fragile financial condition inherited by the state. He added that despite constraints, the government ensured effective implementation of welfare schemes.
Ponnam Prabhakar said the Congress government worked to resolve long pending issues. He stated that welfare hostels earlier faced threats of closure due to unpaid rents.
Now, he said, the government cleared those dues. He also said authorities addressed old mess arrears that had piled up earlier.
Targeting the previous BRS government, the minister questioned the status of major irrigation projects.
He said everyone knew the condition of the Kaleshwaram project built under the previous regime. He also referred to the Gouravelli project, stating that promises were made to complete it quickly, but the outcome remained evident.
Ponnam Prabhakar said the Congress government preferred accountability and transparency. He added that attending the Assembly and engaging in debate remained the democratic duty of every elected representative.
Prabhakar reiterated that the government would continue to respond through governance, not through threats or personal attacks. (Maxim News)
