Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and former Minister T Harish Rao on Thursday alleged that the Congress government had failed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to farmers, stating that quality electricity for agriculture was no longer a reality. He said farmers were now uncertain of getting even 12 to 13 hours of power supply a day, despite assurances made by the government.

Speaking to media persons along with BRS MLA V Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Harish Rao made the remarks after a surprise visit to the Reddipalli power substation. He alleged that the Revanth Reddy led Congress government had not delivered on its promise of 24 hour electricity. According to him, the visit followed complaints from farmers in Reddypalli and Madduru villages who reported frequent power disruptions during the ongoing Rabi sowing season.

Harish Rao said he was on his way to a party meeting when he received distress calls from farmers complaining about irregular electricity supply. Therefore, he decided to personally inspect the situation. During the visit, the BRS leaders examined the substation logbook. He said the records supported the farmers’ claims and showed that power supply was far below the promised duration.

Explaining the findings, Harish Rao stated that one logbook entry showed power supply for just 12 hours. Another entry recorded supply for 14 hours, from 5 PM to 3 AM the next day. Yet another entry showed only 13 hours of electricity. He said such erratic supply was affecting agricultural operations at a crucial stage. Meanwhile, he stressed that farmers depended heavily on stable power during the sowing period and could not plan their work amid uncertainty.

Drawing a comparison with the previous BRS rule, Harish Rao praised former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for ensuring round the clock power supply to the farming community. He said the present situation stood in sharp contrast to that period. He also accused the Congress regime of being anti farmer, citing what he described as partial implementation of schemes such as Rythu Bandhu and loan waivers.

Later, Harish Rao demanded immediate restoration of 24 hour power supply to farmers. He also called for action against erring officials and sought a detailed debate in the Assembly on power related issues. In addition, he challenged the government to conduct cooperative elections immediately, reiterating that farmers were being neglected on multiple fronts. (Maxim News)
