- Triveni Season 3 features Kaushiki Chakraborty at Ravindra Bharati
Triveni Season 3, the annual classical music festival organised by Surmandal, delivered a memorable evening of Hindustani classical music and live art at Ravindra Bharati, Hyderabad. The event brought together music, visual art, and social service, while also marking Surmandal’s long-standing contribution to Indian classical traditions.
The festival opened with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, setting a formal and auspicious tone for Triveni Season 3. The ceremony was led by Vijaysen Reddy, Judge, High Court of Telangana; Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Secretary Industries, Government of Telangana; Puneet Kapoor, Deputy Commandant, Major General; and Kalyan Mukharjee, Chief General Manager, Canara Bank, Hyderabad. The organisers described the evening as a coming together of sangeet, seva, and samhita, blending performance with purpose.

Founded in 1969 by Mohan Hemmadi with the blessings of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Surmandal has played a key role in shaping Hyderabad as a centre for Indian classical music. Triveni Season 3 also marked 57 years of Surmandal’s service to classical music and dance. Conceptualised by Shri Mohan Hemmadi Ji, the Triveni series pays tribute to stalwarts Ravi Shankar, Bhimsen Joshi, and M. S. Subbulakshmi, while also honouring the contributions of Smt. Anuradha Hemmadi and Shri Mohan Hemmadi Ji.
The highlight of Triveni Season 3 was a powerful performance by Vidushi Kaushiki Chakraborty. She opened with Raag Shree, presenting the bada khayal “Chatur Sujan” in Ektaal, followed by the chhota khayal “Hari ke charan kamal” in Jhaptaal. She then rendered a Vishnu Digambar Paluskar composition with sensitivity. Later, she moved to Raag Durga with “Sakhi mori rum jhum” and concluded the main recital with “Jai Jai Jai Durge Mata Bhawani”. On audience demand, she ended with “Yaad piya ki aaye,” drawing strong responses from the packed hall.
The concert also featured Murad Ali on sarangi, Yashwant Vaishnav on rhythm, and Tanmay Deochake on harmonium. Meanwhile, Hyderabad-based artist Sachin Jaltare created a live painting inspired by the music. The artwork was later presented to Sparsh Hospice, supported by the Rotary Club of Banjara Hills. The organisers said supporting Sparsh Hospice reflected a cause close to Shri Mohan Hemmadi Ji’s heart, reinforcing the belief that classical music can offer comfort and healing
