Budget 2026 Unveils Major Push For AVGC Industry Growth
New Delhi / Hyderabad, Feb. 1 (Maxim News): The Union Budget 2026 has announced a major initiative to position India as a global hub for animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics, collectively known as the AVGC sector.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the industry will need nearly two million skilled professionals by 2030. Therefore, the government has launched a large-scale talent development programme starting at the school level.
Budget 2026 AVGC Sector Gets National Talent Mission
Under the new plan, the government will set up advanced AVGC content creator labs across the country. These labs will be established in 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges. The initiative will be implemented with support from the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies in Mumbai.
As a result, students will receive hands-on training in animation, graphics, game design, and visual storytelling. Moreover, the programme aims to build strong creative skills from an early age.
The government also wants India to move beyond service based work for foreign studios. Instead, it plans to promote original content under the Create in India brand. This shift aligns with rising demand from OTT platforms and the fast growing gaming market.
Overall, the Budget 2026 AVGC initiative seeks to transform the sector into a major employment engine. Officials believe it will help Indian youth compete strongly in the global creative economy. (Maxim News)
