The new charges came into effect from April 1. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao issued the orders.

The government will also add 18 percent GST. Because of this, the total increase reaches nearly 77–78 percent. Therefore, citizens and students may face higher costs while applying for certificates.

Under the new rates, Category-A charges increased from ₹35 to ₹62. Similarly, Category-B charges increased from ₹45 to ₹80. At the same time, Meeseva operators will now earn higher commissions. This is the first major increase in nearly 15 years.

Earlier, applicants paid only the service fee. Now they must also pay higher document charges. For example, printing or scanning more than four pages now costs ₹2.50 per page. Earlier, the cost was ₹2 per page.

For instance, a caste certificate application earlier cost ₹45. Now the base charge increased to ₹67.50. After GST, the total cost reaches about ₹80. As a result, applicants must pay much more than before.

Operators get higher commissions

The government also increased commissions for Meeseva operators. Earlier, operators earned about ₹13 from a ₹35 Category-A service. Now they earn about ₹40 from the ₹62 fee.

Similarly, Category-B commissions increased to about ₹52 on the ₹80 fee. Moreover, some services include a ₹7 share for government departments.

However, some services do not include a government share. In such cases, 30 percent goes to the e-Seva Commissionerate. The remaining 70 percent goes to Meeseva operators.
