- Refrigerator explosion in Mahalaxmiwada leaves two dead
- Short circuit suspected as flames engulf victims in sleep
Nirmal, April 5: Two persons were burnt alive after a refrigerator explosion triggered a fire in Nirmal on Saturday night. The incident took place in the Mahalaxmiwada area and resulted in both victims getting trapped in flames inside the premises.
Police said the explosion was suspected to have been caused by a short circuit in the refrigerator. Soon after the blast, flames spread rapidly, leaving the victims with no chance to escape. Both individuals were reportedly asleep at the time, which further worsened the situation.
One of the victims was identified as Odisela Vijay (50), a daily wage earner from the town. However, the identity of the second victim is yet to be established. Authorities are working to confirm further details about the deceased.
Meanwhile, neighbours heard the sound generated from the explosion and immediately alerted the police. Acting quickly, police teams rushed to the spot and began a rescue operation. However, both victims had already been charred to death by the time help arrived.
Later, officials continued their preliminary investigation at the site. The suspected short circuit is being examined as the possible cause of the refrigerator explosion. However, more details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
The incident has raised concerns about electrical safety and household appliance risks. Authorities are expected to gather more evidence and provide clarity on the sequence of events in the coming days.
