Hyderabad, May 14: Residents across Telangana are preparing for intense summer heatwaves after the India Meteorological Department Hyderabad centre issued a red alert warning over soaring temperatures in several districts.
The weather department forecast that temperatures may remain above 45 degrees Celsius in parts of the State over the next two days.
Officials advised people to avoid direct exposure to sunlight during afternoon hours and stay hydrated as heatwave conditions intensify.
On Wednesday, temperatures crossed the 45 degree Celsius mark in Telangana.
According to data released by the Telangana Development Planning Society, Nizamabad recorded the highest temperature in the State at 45.5 degrees Celsius.
Hyderabad Records Temperatures Above 42 Degrees
In Hyderabad, the highest temperature reached 42.4 degrees Celsius in Amberpet.
Several other localities also witnessed extreme heat conditions.
Areas including Shaikpet, Maredpally, Musheerabad, Asifnagar and Nampally recorded temperatures above 42 degrees Celsius.
The IMD forecast that temperatures may exceed 45 degrees Celsius in districts such as Adilabad, Jagtial, Karimnagar, Komaram Bheem, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad and Peddapalle.
Thunderstorms Likely In Some Districts
Despite the severe heat, the weather department also predicted scattered thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds on May 14 and 15.
Weather analyst T Balaji stated that isolated thunderstorms are likely in Hyderabad during the evening and night hours on Wednesday.

He also forecast scattered intense thunderstorms in districts including Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Rangareddy, Narayanpet, Mahabubnagar, Gadwal, Wanaparthy and Nagarkurnool.
Authorities advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during peak heat hours and remain cautious during thunderstorm activity.
Health experts also urged people to consume sufficient water, wear light clothing and avoid outdoor activities during afternoon hours to prevent heat related illnesses.
