Indian MEA Condemns Drone Attack Near UAE Nuclear Plant

Hyderabad, May 18: India strongly condemned the drone attack near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates after the incident triggered fresh tensions in West Asia.

According to reports, drones targeted the Barakah nuclear facility, raising global concerns over regional security and nuclear safety.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs expressed deep concern over the attack and urged all sides to avoid escalation.

In an official statement, India described the attack as “completely unacceptable” and warned that such incidents could lead to dangerous consequences.

UAE Tightens Security After Drone Strike

UAE authorities said three drones entered the country through the western border. Officials stated that one drone crashed inside the nuclear facility premises, while security forces intercepted and destroyed two others.

Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported and radiation levels remained normal after the incident.

The UAE government termed the strike a “terrorist attack” and declared that it reserved the right to respond against any threat to its sovereignty and national security.

The Barakah Nuclear Power Plant is considered a critical energy infrastructure project and reportedly supplies nearly 25 per cent of the UAE’s electricity requirements.

The plant, developed with assistance from South Korea, became operational in 2020 and remains the only nuclear power facility in the Arab world.

Following the attack, UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions with foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Egypt.

Several countries condemned the attack and expressed support for the UAE.

Reports suggested that Iranian-backed groups could be linked to the drone strike, although no official confirmation has been issued so far.

The incident has further heightened geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region amid ongoing concerns over regional security and energy infrastructure.
