Delhi/Hyderabad, May 22: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said India would follow a zero tolerance policy against border infiltration and illegal immigration, asserting that the country would never bow down before any threat.
Addressing Border Security Force personnel at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday, Amit Shah announced that the Centre would implement a comprehensive “Smart Border” policy within a year to strengthen security along the country’s international borders.
He said illegal infiltration would not be tolerated under any circumstances and made it clear that illegal immigrants identified in the country would be deported.
Smart Border Policy To Be Implemented
Amit Shah stated that the government was planning to create an impenetrable security grid across India’s nearly 6,000-kilometre-long international borders.
According to him, the Border Security Force would be equipped with advanced technologies including radars, modern surveillance systems and high-end cameras under the Smart Border initiative.
He also instructed the BSF to coordinate closely with state police departments, district collectors and local authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering and monitor infiltration and cattle smuggling routes.
The Home Minister said the Union Home Ministry would soon hold meetings with the Chief Ministers of West Bengal, Assam and Tripura regarding border security coordination.
Illegal Migration A Threat To Demographic Balance
Amit Shah described illegal migration as a deliberate conspiracy aimed at changing the country’s demographic balance.
He said the government was committed to identifying and deporting illegal migrants to safeguard national interests.
Speaking on Left Wing Extremism, Shah said the issue should not be viewed merely as a security challenge and stressed the need for complete eradication of extremism.
He further announced that a high-level demography mission would soon be launched to support frontline security personnel.
Praising the role of the BSF, Amit Shah said the force, which started with 25 battalions in 1965, has now grown into one of the world’s largest border guarding forces with nearly 2.7 lakh personnel.
He said the BSF had consistently defended the country’s borders despite multiple challenges and ensured national security without compromise.
