Hyderabad, May 31: Conventional universities across Telangana have extended the summer vacation for campus, constituent and affiliated colleges until June 6 due to the ongoing heatwave conditions and soaring temperatures across the State.
Earlier, the universities had scheduled summer holidays only until May 31. However, considering the severe weather conditions, authorities decided to prolong the vacation period to safeguard students and staff.
The extension applies to all undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programmes under the conventional universities.
Universities Announce Revised Reopening Dates
According to official circulars, Osmania University, Palamuru University and Telangana University have extended the vacation until June 6 and scheduled the reopening of colleges on June 8.
Meanwhile, Kakatiya University and Satavahana University have extended the summer break until June 5, with colleges set to reopen on June 6.

The universities clarified that principals and faculty members holding administrative responsibilities must continue attending their offices during the extended vacation period.
Heatwave Prompts Extension
Telangana Government Colleges Gazetted Teachers’ Association General Secretary and Collegiate Education Joint Action Committee Chairman Kadaru Surender Reddy said the extension was granted following representations made to university authorities.
He noted that under University Grants Commission regulations, degree colleges are entitled to ten weeks of vacation annually. However, state universities had initially declared holidays only from May 1 to May 31.
Dr. Surender Reddy pointed out that faculty members were also engaged in state education week celebrations and census-related duties during the vacation period. Considering these responsibilities and the prevailing intense summer heat, the association appealed to Vice Chancellors and Registrars of various universities to extend the holidays.
The decision is expected to provide relief to students and teaching staff as Telangana continues to experience high temperatures and heatwave conditions in several districts.
