Kolkata, June 1: The West Bengal government led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari expanded its cabinet on Monday, with 35 BJP MLAs taking oath as ministers in a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan in Kolkata.
The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Governor R. N. Ravi.
Cabinet Strength Reaches 41
With the induction of 35 new ministers, the total strength of the West Bengal Council of Ministers has risen to 41, including the Chief Minister. Under Article 164(1A) of the Constitution, the state can have a maximum of 44 ministers, leaving room for three more appointments in the future.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had assumed office on May 9. Along with him, senior BJP leaders including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Ashok Keertania and Kshudiram had earlier taken oath as ministers.
Newly Inducted Ministers
The newly sworn-in ministers include Deepak Burman, Tapas Roy, Shankar Ghosh, Manoj Kumar Oraon, Gauri Shankar Ghosh, Swapan Dasgupta, Kalyan Chakraborty, Arup Kumar Das, Dood Kumar Mondal, Sharadwat Mukherjee, Jagannath Chattopadhyay, Arjun Singh, Malati Rava Roy, Rajesh Mahata, Indrani Khan, Kaushik Chaudhary, Gargi Das Ghosh, Bhaskar Bhattacharya, Dibakar Gharami, Sumana Sarkar, Joel Murmu, Ashok Dinda, Anandamay Burman, Harekrishna Bera, Shantanu Pramanik, Umesh Roy, Purnima Chakraborty, Moumita Biswas Mishra, Kalita Maji, Bishal Lama, Ajay Kumar Poddar, Biraj Biswas, Dipankar Jana, Amyra Kisku and Nadiar Chand Bauri.
The cabinet expansion is expected to strengthen the government’s administrative setup and provide representation to various regions and communities across the state.
