Hyderabad, June 5: HYDRA conducted a major land protection drive in Puppalaguda of Gandipet mandal, securing nearly 200 acres of government land through fencing operations on Friday.
Officials said the protected land is estimated to be worth around Rs. 30,000 crore and had previously been allotted to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
The land includes historically significant rock formations that have long been the focus of conservation efforts by the Society to Save Rocks.
Representatives of the organization have been campaigning for decades to protect the rock mounds and surrounding government land from encroachment. They had also approached the High Court seeking measures to preserve the site.
According to officials, the High Court had directed the municipal and revenue departments to safeguard both the government land and the historic rock formations.
However, delays in boundary demarcation and fencing allegedly led to repeated encroachment attempts. The issue was recently raised by members of the Society to Save Rocks during a HYDRA Prajavani grievance meeting.
Following the complaint, HYDRA Commissioner A V Ranganath visited the site and reviewed the situation.
Subsequently, HYDRA personnel, along with revenue and municipal officials, carried out fencing works to secure the land and prevent future encroachments.
Officials said the operation was aimed at protecting government property and preserving the area’s ecological and geological heritage.
