Hyderabad, June 12: The Centre has imposed a temporary restriction on bulk fuel purchases from retail petrol pumps for commercial use and directed institutional buyers to procure fuel only through authorised bulk suppliers.
The temporary measure will remain in force for 90 days and is aimed at regulating fuel procurement practices.
According to the new guidelines, industrial, commercial and institutional consumers will not be allowed to purchase petrol and diesel in bulk quantities from retail fuel outlets.
Instead, such consumers have been instructed to obtain supplies through approved bulk distribution channels.
Officials observed that bulk fuel purchases from retail outlets had increased because retail fuel prices remained lower than bulk supply rates in several locations.
Reports indicated that in Delhi, retail diesel prices were significantly lower than bulk supply rates, leading some industrial and commercial users to shift purchases to regular fuel stations.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued the latest guidelines to address the growing price gap and regulate fuel distribution.
The Centre also directed state governments and Union Territories to ensure that common consumers do not face inconvenience during implementation.
Authorities were instructed to prevent black marketing, illegal hoarding, unauthorized procurement, fuel diversion and related irregularities.
The government said the temporary restrictions are intended to ensure fuel availability and maintain orderly distribution based on consumer requirements.
