Hyderabad, June 20: BRS leaders and workers staged a protest at the MRO office, demanding protection of eight acres of government land in the Cantonment area and its use for building 6,000 Indiramma houses for poor families.
Leading the protest, BRS Membership In-Charge Dr Manne Krishank alleged that the land, valued at nearly Rs 800 crore, has been listed as government property in official records for decades.
He said Congress leaders had earlier proposed constructing 6,000 Indiramma houses on the same land. However, he accused a local Congress MLA of allowing encroachment after allegedly taking a bribe.
Cantonment land protest targets alleged encroachment
The BRS claimed that the land was now being targeted for commercial projects, including shopping malls. The party said it would not allow government land to fall into private hands and warned that it would intensify the agitation if the issue was not addressed.
Krishank recalled that in August 2023, when encroachers allegedly tried to enter the land, the then government acted immediately. He said the MRO filed a complaint, an FIR was registered and steps were taken to safeguard the property.
The BRS now alleged that the Congress government has allowed the same land to be encroached upon by land grabbers. It demanded that the state government and officials pursue all legal options to restore the land fully under government control.
The protest was attended by BRS leaders including Dr Manne Krishank, Niveditha, former Corporation Chairman Gajjala Nagesh, former Cantonment Board members Jakkula Maheshwar Reddy, Anita, Nalini, Kiran, Pandu Yadav, Shyam Kumar and T N Srinivas.
