Bald Headed Crow Spotted In Jadcherla: Scientific Reason

Hyderabad, June 30 (Maxim News): A bald headed crow spotted at the Telangana Botanical Garden in Jadcherla has drawn the attention of visitors and sparked curiosity among locals. While many people associate such birds with bad omens, experts say the unusual appearance has scientific explanations and should not be linked to superstitions.
The crow was seen on Monday evening at the Telangana Botanical Garden located inside Dr. Burgula Ramakrishna Rao Government Degree College in Jadcherla. Visitors gathered to observe the bird, which appeared to have no feathers on its head and neck.

Bald Headed Crow Has Scientific Reasons

Garden Coordinator Dr. B. Sadashivayya said bald headed crows are not uncommon and their appearance is usually caused by natural or medical reasons.

He explained that the most common reason is molting, a natural process in which birds shed old feathers and grow new ones. During this period, the head or neck may appear bald for a few days. Once new feathers grow completely, the bird regains its normal appearance.

Moreover, Dr. Sadashivayya said parasites, fungal infections, and viral diseases can also cause feather loss. He noted that diseases such as Avian Pox may produce sores or lesions on the head, resulting in feathers falling off.

In addition, poor nutrition, environmental pollution, injuries during fights with other birds, and stress can also contribute to feather loss in crows.

Dr. Sadashivayya appealed to people not to treat bald headed crows as a sign of bad luck. Instead, he urged the public to understand such occurrences from a scientific perspective.

He said crows play an important role in maintaining ecological balance by cleaning the environment and disposing of organic waste. Therefore, protecting them is essential for a healthy ecosystem.

Wildlife experts also noted that temporary feather loss is a normal biological process in many bird species. Consequently, there is no reason for alarm when such birds are spotted in the wild.

The sighting of the bald headed crow has attracted several nature enthusiasts to the botanical garden, while also creating awareness about bird health and the importance of scientific understanding over myths. (Maxim News)
