New Delhi, July 9: Delhi Police have uncovered a major job fraud racket in which unemployed youth were allegedly cheated of lakhs of rupees with fake promises of recruitment in the Income Tax Department. Three accused, including a former Income Tax Department employee, have been arrested.
According to the police, the accused lured job seekers through fake recruitment advertisements circulated on social media. They allegedly collected between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh from each victim by promising jobs in the Income Tax Department.
Investigators said the gang conducted fake interviews and orientation sessions inside the Income Tax office premises at Delhi’s Civic Centre to make the recruitment process appear genuine.
One of the arrested accused, identified as Chirag Agarwal, had reportedly worked in the Income Tax Department for 15 years. Police said he used his familiarity with the office to escort victims inside the premises and gain their confidence.
The accused allegedly showed fake verification forms, service books and other fabricated documents to convince candidates that the recruitment process was legitimate.
Delhi Police launched the investigation after receiving a complaint from a victim in the Ajmeri Gate area. Using technical surveillance, officers traced and arrested the three accused.
Police seized four mobile phones and several forged documents related to the victims during the operation. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the alleged mastermind behind the racket.
