Tehran, July 13: Iran has claimed it carried out a large-scale missile and drone offensive against multiple US military bases across the Gulf region in retaliation for the latest American airstrikes on Iranian territory, marking a sharp escalation in the ongoing conflict.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) described the operation as its largest retaliatory action since the conflict intensified earlier this year.
According to the IRGC, the strikes targeted US military facilities in:
- Kuwait
- Qatar
- Bahrain
- Oman
- Jordan
Iran claimed its forces struck Patriot air defence systems, radar installations, fuel storage facilities and ammunition depots using missiles and drones. The claims have not been independently verified.
The IRGC also warned that any further US military action would be met with an even stronger response.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces carried out strikes on dozens of Iranian military targets, including air defence systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone infrastructure, and naval assets. The US said the operation was aimed at reducing threats to civilian shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
Explosions were reported near Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island, areas that host key Iranian military facilities.
The latest exchange of strikes has heightened tensions across the Gulf, with concerns growing over maritime security and the impact on global energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz. Oil prices have risen amid fears of further escalation.
