Hyderabad, August 2: Godavari flood receded at Bhadrachalam on Sunday, leading authorities to withdraw the second warning level. However, heavy flood discharge continued at the Dowleswaram Barrage in Andhra Pradesh, the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) said.
The water level at Bhadrachalam was recorded at 47.9 feet. Meanwhile, it stood at 21.5 metres at Kunavaram and 13.3 metres at Polavaram. In addition, the Dowleswaram Barrage near Rajahmundry recorded an inflow and outflow of 14.6 lakh cusecs.
Godavari Flood Situation Remains Serious at Dowleswaram
APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain said the Godavari flood situation has improved at Bhadrachalam. Therefore, officials withdrew the second warning level. However, he said heavy flood discharge continues at the Dowleswaram Barrage and people should remain alert.
He urged residents not to cross overflowing streams or causeways. Moreover, he asked the public to cooperate with officials involved in relief operations.
Jain also warned people against travelling, bathing, swimming or fishing in the Godavari river. He said these activities remain dangerous due to the prevailing flood conditions.
Officials continue to monitor river levels across vulnerable locations. They have advised people living near the river to follow official instructions and avoid unnecessary movement until conditions improve.
