Hyderabad, Sept. 3: Former minister T Harish Rao sent a selfie of pending Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme canals to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
Harish Rao took the selfie during an inspection of canals at Reddipalli and Manthur villages in Narsapur constituency. He alleged that the Congress government had failed to complete the remaining KLIS works.
Harish Rao Targets Congress Over Pending KLIS Works
Speaking to reporters, Harish Rao claimed that the Congress government had not completed any KLIS work during the past three years.
He said the BRS government had completed 85 percent of tunnel works under the 18th and 19th packages. According to Rao, former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao planned to use the works to impound Singur water and take Godavari water to Nizam Sagar.
Rao alleged that Revanth Reddy had stalled the works and ignored pending irrigation projects in the erstwhile Medak district. He also said the Chief Minister had not discussed KLIS during recent public meetings in Zaheerabad and Sangareddy.
He said the Sangameshwara and Basaveshwara Lift Irrigation Projects also remained incomplete. Rao claimed the projects were planned to provide irrigation to five lakh acres in Sangareddy and Medak districts.
Rao also criticised the government over the proposed increase in the height of the Ghanpur anicut and Haldi Project. He said 20 percent of the Dubbak lift irrigation project was pending when Congress came to power.
Rao claimed repeated appeals by Dubbak MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy had not led to completion of the project.
He further alleged that inadequate pumping from KLIS during the rainy season reduced water levels in Mallanna Sagar, Kondapochamma Sagar and Rangnayaka Sagar to dead storage levels.
Rao shared pictures of the pending canals with Revanth Reddy over the phone. He demanded immediate release of funds to resume all pending irrigation projects in Medak district.
Narsapur MLA V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy and other BRS leaders were present during the inspection.
