GHMC Garbage Workers Detained Near Telangana Assembly

Hyderabad, Sept. 12: Police detained several GHMC garbage collection workers near the Telangana Assembly on Saturday during a protest over the proposed door to door garbage collection changes.

The workers demanded continuation of the decades old household garbage collection system.

They opposed handing over the work to private agencies and sought protection of their existing jobs.

The protesters carried placards opposing the proposed private agency system.

The workers said they wanted to continue door to door garbage collection.

They opposed shifting to wage or salary based employment under a new system.

Police detained several protesters when they tried to proceed towards the Assembly.

The police then shifted the detained workers to a nearby police station.

The protest was aimed at highlighting concerns over proposed changes to the existing garbage collection system.
