Delhi/Hyderabad, Oct 24 (Maxim News): Pakistan is facing mounting security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan as militant groups threaten security forces and infrastructure projects.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) are increasing pressure on Pakistan’s security establishment, according to intelligence inputs cited by an Intelligence Bureau official.
The official said both groups were planning simultaneous attacks in the two regions. Intelligence assessments also warned of potential attacks on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects and senior Pakistani military officers.
Such attacks could stretch security resources and worsen existing manpower shortages, the official said.
The developments have raised concerns about the security of Chinese investments in Pakistan. Beijing has significant economic interests in infrastructure projects connecting western China with the Arabian Sea.
BLF Announces Operation Almas in Balochistan
The BLF has announced an operation called Operation Almas, targeting development projects linked to CPEC, according to reports.
The group claimed responsibility for attacks on the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) camp at Gwadar Zero Point on October 22. It also claimed that seven Pakistani security personnel were killed during the operation.
However, the reported casualties and details of the attack have not been independently verified. Pakistani authorities disputed reports of attacks on security forces and their camps while confirming separate counterterrorism operations in Gwadar.
Pakistan’s military said security forces killed 10 militants during separate engagements near Gwadar city and the Gabd border crossing. It reported one civilian death and damage to several vehicles, while saying no security personnel were killed in those engagements.
The competing accounts have left questions about the full scale of the reported attacks and their casualties.
Balochistan remains strategically important because Gwadar is a major component of CPEC. The corridor aims to connect western China with the Arabian Sea through Pakistan.
The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), BLF and TTP have opposed aspects of Pakistan’s security and development policies. Attacks targeting infrastructure and security personnel have increased concerns about protecting strategic projects.
An official cited in the report said Pakistan was also facing pressure from China over the security of CPEC investments. Beijing is expected to seek stronger protection for projects and personnel linked to its economic interests.
The report also said the Pakistani Army had recalled retired personnel, who were instructed to report by October 30. The move comes amid concerns about manpower shortages and simultaneous security operations.
The situation remains fluid, with Pakistani authorities continuing counterterrorism operations and militant groups claiming attacks across multiple locations.
